A rather scarce enamel sign to see on today’s market. Produced by shell in the 20s known as the shell cut out can. It’s supposed to mimic the exact copy of one of the gallon shell oil cans. Such a superb design of an enamel sign with the bright orange and black, double sided so would have originally been hung outside of a garage on a bracket. The skill used by the enamel manufacturer to create a flat sign to look so 3 dimensional is beyond belief. One of the iconic motoring signs in my opinions.
condition
the sign has been repaired most of which is to the top of the can, I assume the top has been bent at some point, so the top has been filled and restored both sides, hence why the shell looks a bit off on the top of the can the hanging holes have been repaired also. Some enamel loss and deep scratching to one side, but a very glossy and colourful example.
